Fic: Nicht mein Typ (Tom/Marc, German)

Since the HoFest reveals are up (YAY!!), I can finally post this... I wrote it in the final days of finishing Slayer and have been sitting on it ever since, lol. English version will follow later today, I still need to fix some stuff about it!

Title: Nicht mein Typ
: [info]aldiara
Fandom/Characters/Pairings: Alles Was Zählt; Marc Hagendorf (1. Person); Tom/Marc
Word Count: 2400
Rating: Mature but non-explicit. IDK.
Summary: Eine kleine Auflistung der vielen Gründe, warum Tom Reichenbach eigentlich überhaupt nicht Marcs Typ ist und er diese ganze kuriose Sache gleich nächstes Wochenende beenden wird. Bestimmt. Wahrscheinlich. Naja, vielleicht. Hm.
: Fluffiger als gewohnt.
Disclaimer: These characters belong to RTL, who seem to prefer to pretend that Marc Hagendorf never existed. I happen to think that's a colossal mistake, but hey. WE CAN FIX!
Author's Notes: English version here. A little by-product of Slayer, although I think it probably works as a standalone, too. Takes place a few months after the events of Slayer. (Yes, there is an English version but I need to have it looked at first, so I'll post it later.)

Concerts, movies, fannish exploits & the rest

This weekend, I did stuff, for a change!

Auckland-bound )

It was the first time either of us had actually spent any time in Auckland (previously we'd just whizzed through), and it was nice to taste a bit of big city life again. We explored a bit of the downtown and gorged on massive amounts of shopping, which was bloody good fun. Then had lunch in a lovely park, and in the early afternoon went to check in and get ready for the concert.

Counting Crows and The Who )

After the concert, Alsha and I made it back into town after some bus-related issues (the free public transport thing back wasn't nearly as well organised as getting there, so there was lots of milling about in giant crowds and stupid bus drivers giving wrong instructions) and pretty much just fell into bed, we were that tired.

On Sunday, we slept in, had a huge breakfast and went to the zoo in the afternoon. Moar )

Our flight back was on Monday afternoon, so we had some time to kill, though not loads of money, so we went and saw a movie. Our options were either Slumdog Millionaire or The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas. We were slightly more interested in the subject matter of the latter and also knew that Asa Butterfield, the little boy who played Mordred in Merlin, was in it, so we ended up going with that.

The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas (dear British/American movie industries, why are you so hell-bent on appropriating the Nazi stuff? You're lovely, but you fail at being German! )

After the movie, we went to collect our bags and went to catch the plane home. Arrived last night to needy cats and piles of work that I'll somehow have to vanquish this week. DO NOT WANT. Let's have some fandom pimping instead!

[info]graspthethorn is doing the 2009 SEXY awards over on [info]seifen_slash! Go forth and nominate, I command you! AWZ stuff especially... I doubt Verbotene Liebe needs any help, hehehe. SUPPORT OUR TINY FANDOM! Go and nominate fics or art you liked! It won't take a minute :D

I hope to surface a few times this week to do EKP stuff (Christmas and New Year's episodes coming up soon!) and maybe watch the show, though recaps will probably have to be shorter this week.

In other telly-related news, I've recently started watching Torchwood season 2, and holy wow, it is good! I gotta admit, I wasn't too floored by season 1 - I liked it but it seemed a bit random and didn't really capture me enough to make me want to have more! now!, but I'm definitely getting that vibe with season 2 so far. Awesome plots! Great side characters! JAMES MARSTERS! Massive amounts of boykissing! Ianto ruling with the witty one-liners! It is beautiful. And further saturating my happy little slasher heart. Really, the amount of slash I HAVEN'T had to make up this year is mind-boggling. The canon boylove, it overwhelms me!

Aaaaand I also really enjoyed the latest episode of Dollhouse! I hope they keep going like that, because that was noticeably better than the previous ones. I approve!

Now if only I could bend the space-time continuum enough to have time for all my fannish exploits, writing (In This Home On Ice will have to be put on, well, ice... for the rest of the week at least), work, eating, trimming my hedge & mowing my lawn (hahahahaha) AND the occasional sleep! But it will all work out somehow as usual, I'm sure. I DON'T KNOW HOW. IT IS A MYSTERY.

*poodles off to see what atrociousness AWZ has been up to in the latest eps*

Schatz: Contemplations on a German Endearment

Schatz. I love/hate this word. It combines untapped depths of feeling with the most superficial of off-hand, vaguely fond dismissal, depending on circumstance.

Nuances: Schatz can mean any of the following: darling, sweetheart, love; an increasingly sickening number of variations on "honey", "doll", "ducky" and "precious" (a la Gollum); a presumably lovely person that you may or may not know but certainly don't harbour the slightest romantic intentions towards; a dear friend; someone you hate and wish to humiliate with fake sugar-sweetness; in Vienna: a person you know absolutely zero about other than that they work with you and you can't quite remember their name (this used to drive me nuts).

Alternatively, it also means "treasure", and oddly enough, though it doesn't work as a direct translation, I find that to be the most fitting of meanings: someone you utterly cherish, and although/because there isn't a word for what you feel that doesn't sound stupid or cheesy, you might as well go all out and stand by how besotted you are.

Roman uses it occasionally, with typical nonchalance, and it strikes me as a very Roman word to use: innocuous and flirtatious and light-hearted if thus intended, but always with that deeper undercurrent of "treasure": meaning, you're mine, and I'll defend my claim to you tooth and claw if I have to.

I find it touching, though probably unintentional on the writers' part, that Deniz uses it first, quite casually, in the contrived Christmas drama episode; not directly, but referring to Roman when talking to someone else (Nadja). I can't actually see him using it when addressing Roman himself, and I don't remember that ever happening; but I do find it poignant that he would use it to refer to Roman to a third party, without even thinking about it.

When forced to translate it, I'd probably go with "sweetie", although that's a whole other level in English: the fact is just that this is one of the terms that doesn't seem to have a direct equivalent. "Love" is too strong, "darling" too 1956, "honey" too married and homely. Mind you, I'm perfectly fine using any of those for friends, but for a significant other, they just seem too cloyingly sentimental. I'm not entirely fond of "sweetie" either, but at least it seems to have that element of fondly teasing snark that "Schatz" has; not entirely serious, but not entirely flippant either.

...I think too much about these things.

Und nochmal auf Deutsch, for anyone who cares

Title: Anders (Different)
Author: Aldiara
Pairing/Fandom: Deniz/Roman, Alles Was Zählt
Rating: NC-17
Language: English/German
Summary: Deniz and Roman's first time. Basically fills in the blanks between episodes 306 and 307.
Word Count: 8034 words (English) / 7466 words (German)
Disclaimer: Alas, not mine. Cause if I had anything to say about current storylines...

Notes: Dedicated to the lovely [info]lilithilien who shares my complete obsession with these boys and is responsible for me very nearly (but not quite) titling this Deniz Does Too Bottom :p And a big thanks to the lovely [info]alsha for putting up with said obsession on a daily basis, happily watching clips with me and listening to me rant and reading this first :D

Random language-related note:
For what it's worth, I think the dialogue bits (and especially the endearments) are more authentic in German for obvious reasons, but some things I just find easier to express in English (which resulted in the odd extra tidbit in the English version). I also think it's more explicit/porny in German but that might just be because I'm not used to writing smut in German.
