Catching Fire! (spoilers, srsly)

*dusts off poor neglected always-down IJ which DAMMIT once again has outdated icons now arrrrrrgh*

SO! [info]alsha and [info]antiteb and I went to see Catching Fire tonight (that was AFTER going to the Weta Cave and randomly running into George R.R. Martin there, lololol wot are our lives) and I need to babble somewhere and this will do nicely! (This will mostly be incoherent rambling and capslock flail, natch).

When running into George R.R. Martin is NOT the most exciting event of your day, it's gotta be a pretty good movie! SPOILERS. )

Argh, there are so many more things and so many little things and so many feelings. I need to go again and see it roughly another seven times at least to pick up on everything and at least decide what my favourite bits were! But yeah, so I loved it and I CANNOT BELIEVE I AM ONCE AGAIN SUPPOSED TO WAIT. WHAT IS THAT. I JUST WAITED A YEAR AND A HALF. OMG GIEF MOCKINGJAY NOW.

30 Days of Hunger Games

LA LA LA. So I did consider doing 30 Days of Angel just to complete the trifecta of primary Whedon shows (Dollhouse, what Dollhouse?), but then I took one look at the questions and realised it would be a waste of time because I disliked that show so much I'd just be pissing off everyone who did like it, lol (Example: Day 26 - something that you wish had never happened: THIS ENTIRE FREAKING SUCKY SHOW. Day 27 - something that you wish had happened: A SHOW FEATURING CORDELIA, DOYLE, FAITH AND OZ INSTEAD.)

So instead I'm going with something I did enjoy:

Here's some advice: Stay alive. )

Catching Fire casting notions

Tralala. I was looking at [info]lilithilien's post of her casting choices for Catching Fire and it inspired me to do my own.

Mind you, I have no particular opinion or preference about most of the tributes, apart from a general hope that there won't be too much star-studding. I'd much rather have lesser-known faces (but good actors) attached to these roles than all the big stars swooping down and bagging them so we'd have to forever associate Angelina Jolie with a Hunger Games tribute, urgh.

(In a similar vein, I'm very very glad fans are in no way in charge of casting, lol. Some of the suggestions I've seen put forward for people like Finnick and Annie made me run screaming. PLEASE TO BE KEEPING BOTH NATALIE PORTMAN AND HAYDEN CHRISTIANSEN FAR FAR AWAY FROM THIS FILM. SAME GOES FOR THE ENTIRE CAST OF GLEE. KTHXBAI.)

Anyway... the only parts I much care about casting-wise are Johanna, Finnick, Annie and Mags (and Annie isn't even physically in the second book, so I guess that's just three), so those are really the only ones I have ideas about.

And, uhm, two of these choices aren't actors, lol. Let's assume for the sake of happy fantasy casting la la land that that they'd magically be naturals, kk?

My casting choices )

That is all.

Except not, because now I have additions )

Additionally, how do you think they handle that? Would they suppress it with medication? (presumably only works if the tribute is super-regular and let her prep/med team know she was due to start in advance). Or basically be like "fuck you for being female"? Do you think any tribute ever use it to her advantage? (Never underestimate just how much you can probably gross a guy out with this topic). DISCUSS.

Hunger Games, Spazzy Thoughts

Ok, so I missed the midnight viewing because The Capitol wouldn't let me in, i.e. Wellington Airport thought it was necessary to close down for a ridic little bit of fog. I was crushed, CRUSHED. On the upside, when I flew in the next morning, [info]alshaworld and I had an awesome breakfast and then went to see the 11am show, which was nearly empty for some reason. It was really weird (but then it was a school day and still opening day so maybe not many people knew it was on that early, but still, WEIRD). We were pretty pleased to have the theatre to ourselves though :D

And it was so awesome that we decided to go again the next day, again at 11am, when suddenly there were terrifying hordes of squealing teenage girls. I was determined that if they were going to be making ANY noise during the film, I'd make them fight to the death, but to their credit, they contained the porpoise noises to before and after.

Okay, and now for some fangirly rambling! )

I... can't even think of anything else to nitpick about. So. Much. Love! I definitely need a reread, and also to see this film again approximately fifteen times. And also for all the actors and the director and crew to cancel all their other commitments and to work on catching Fire and Mockingjay right the fuck NOW, because those waiting periods are going to be some serious torture. *grabby hands*

I'm still kind of intimidated about venturing into the fandom - I think I'll need to employ a toe-dipping approach ;) But I'm also looking forward to all the awesome creativity that awaits. \o/
